What Is Cap (CAP) Crypto? Tokenomics, Timelock and Risks

Cap is a credit platform on Ethereum where underwriters put up collateral to insure loans funded by depositors of its cUSD dollar token, and CAP is its governance token. On 27 October 2026, 15.6% of the 10 billion CAP traded and a timelock contract held 84.38%.

Cap is a lending market with insurance built in. Its token, CAP, began trading on 26 June 2026 and tripled within four months, which put it near the top of our screen of new tokens.

The question that kept it from passing cleanly was one wallet. A single address held 84% of all CAP. We traced that address on Ethereum to find out what it is, and this page sets out the answer, along with the project’s own terms for when the locked tokens come out.

How it works: what Cap says it builds

Cap’s docs describe a credit platform on Ethereum where every loan is backed by escrowed collateral. Lenders deposit dollar stablecoins and receive cUSD, a dollar token, which they can stake as stcUSD to earn yield. Borrowers draw those dollars to run yield strategies.

Underwriters are what make it different. They put up their own collateral behind a specific borrower, using restaking networks such as EigenLayer and Symbiotic, and earn a premium for it. If a borrower defaults, the underwriter’s collateral is sold first, before lenders lose anything.

CAP itself is the governance and utility token. The docs say holders’ governance rights “will be phased” in as the protocol matures, and that revenue will fund “discretionary buybacks”, meaning there is no fixed rule for them.

The code has been reviewed several times. Cap’s audits page lists reviews by Zellic, Trail of Bits, Spearbit, Certora, Electisec, Recon and Octane, the last one covering the CAP token, plus a Sherlock bug bounty.

Team, backers and funding

The best-documented round is the seed. On 7 April 2025 The Block reported an $8 million seed round led by Franklin Templeton, with Susquehanna, Triton Capital, Nomura’s Laser Digital and GSR among the others. It said a $1.1 million community round on the Echo platform came first.

Cap’s own docs do not list its team. Press reports name a founder, but the reports we found disagree on the name, so we leave it out. The five signers of the token owner wallet appear in the docs only as wallet addresses.

CAP tokenomics: supply, allocation and unlocks

Supply is fixed at 10,000,000,000 CAP. Cap’s tokenomics page gives this split:

Group Share
Ecosystem and Community 47.37%
Private Investors up to 20.00%
Project Team up to 20.00%
ICO 5.00%
Private TVL Deals 3.75%
Echo Community Sale 3.28%
Market Makers 0.6%

At launch, the ICO share plus 10% from Ecosystem and Community circulated, roughly 15% in the docs' words. CoinMarketCap counts 1.56 billion CAP, 15.60%, as circulating. That gave a market value of $148.9 million on 27 October 2026 against a fully diluted value of $954.7 million (price $0.09547, 07:34 UTC), 6.41 times higher.

The big date is June 2027. Private investors, the team and the Echo sale unlock nothing for 12 months after launch. On the first anniversary, 25% of each of those groups unlocks at once, and the rest vests monthly over three years.

Those three groups are at most 20% + 20% + 3.28% = 43.28% of supply, so the anniversary can release up to 25% of that: 10.82% of supply, or up to 1.082 billion CAP.

Where CAP trades

CAP trades in 40 markets, and Korea leads. Of the 24-hour volume CoinMarketCap counted to 27 October, Upbit carried 28.16%, a PancakeSwap pool on BNB Chain 20.21%, Bybit 16.31% and Bithumb 8.50%. Korean won markets as a group made up 36.66%. Coinbase and Kraken also list CAP against the US dollar.

Total volume was $98.3 million, about 0.66 times the market value. That is heavy turnover, but it is spread over well-known exchanges rather than one pool.

CAP uses the same address on two chains: 0x99991c6AAbba5a096f24f250b73580F5179b9999 on Ethereum and on BNB Chain, as listed on Cap’s addresses page.

A worked example: $1,000 at the first close

CAP opened its first day at $0.01 on CoinMarketCap’s data and closed at $0.02938. A $1,000 purchase at that close bought about 34,042 CAP.

Two weeks later the stake was worth about $544. CAP closed at $0.01598 on 11 July 2026, 45.61% below the high close before it: 34,042 × $0.01598.

By 25 October, its highest close at $0.1113, the same coins were worth about $3,790. One day later the close was $0.09889, and the stake was worth about $3,367.

Now put the June 2027 unlock next to that. If the full 1.082 billion CAP were released at the 26 October price, it would be about $107 million of new supply, roughly 69% more than the 1.56 billion counted as circulating.

The original data: what the 84% wallet is

The largest CAP holder is a contract, and its source code is public. Address 0x00000000c3da1f276183e66ebdb2b6db7763b709 held 8,437,500,000 CAP, 84.38% of supply, when we read it on 27 October 2026. Sourcify has a full match of its code: an OpenZeppelin TimelockController, a standard contract that can only move funds through operations scheduled in advance.

We asked the contract for its rules, and it answered. Its minimum delay is 2,592,000 seconds, 30 days. The only address ever given the rights to propose, execute and cancel operations is 0x80A216738E4e49B262Deae6bEb6578Bdf164c2eA, which Cap’s docs call the “Cap token owner multi-sig”.

The admin role belongs to the timelock itself, so changing those roles or the delay also has to wait 30 days.

That wallet is a Safe needing 3 of its 5 signers, and the five match the docs. The CAP token contract also reports the timelock as its owner.

So the wallet is a treasury behind a 30-day timelock, not a vesting schedule. Nothing in the code releases tokens on a calendar. Instead, the owners can move any amount, but only after announcing it on-chain 30 days ahead. The balance fits the plan too: the 15.625% outside the timelock is close to the roughly 15% the docs say circulated at launch.

The contract’s own event log shows how it has been used. It sent 1.55 billion CAP to the owner multisig on 23 June 2026, before launch, while the delay was still one day. The delay was raised to 30 days on 25 June.

Since then it has sent 12,500,000 CAP to address 0xa388cf78ba2abffbe6dfcc0a4211cdbd430b69fd on 1 October 2026. One more transfer to that address, 10,625,000 CAP or about 0.11% of supply, was scheduled on 30 September and can be carried out from 30 October 2026, as read on 27 October.

The ten largest Ethereum holders held 98.13%, out of 1,133 holders on Ethereum.

When it fails: the risks we found

A timelock is a delay, not a lock. The 3-of-5 owners can send out any amount of the 84.38% after 30 days’ notice. That notice is only useful to someone who watches the contract.

June 2027 is a cliff in the literal sense. Up to 10.82% of supply can unlock on one day, set against a circulating supply of 15.60%. Large holders with a year of gains may sell some of it.

The run-up is recent and fast. CAP rose 91.43% in the last 30 days of the data. Fast rises in thin new tokens often give back much of the move.

Korean retail flows are more than a third of trading. Won-market volume can dry up as quickly as it arrives.

Credit risk sits under the token. The protocol lends to borrowers running yield strategies. A large default, or a failure in the restaking collateral behind it, would hit cUSD holders first and the token’s story with them.

Look-alike tokens use the CAP name. Several Solana tokens named “Cap”, such as EcjZXSYQpJf9s8aEF6wJ1KzFPUMrebFXQu3iUcp2Ave5, GCNBwWnx5eZDk7NKRnu9aB2XuzvPtYD8MQrxnSZRJ37K and 9H8ZJu7Gfm3soKrqi18to3tQr8KvzEtg62jJTgUNEZbS, show liquidity figures that look fake on DEX trackers. Capminal on Base is a different project. Cap’s token is not on Solana at all.

FAQ

Is the 84% CAP wallet locked?

It is a verified timelock contract with a 30-day minimum delay, controlled by Cap’s documented 3-of-5 multi-signature wallet. Tokens can leave it, but only after an operation is scheduled on-chain at least 30 days in advance. One small transfer, about 0.11% of supply, was already scheduled for 30 October 2026.

When do CAP tokens unlock?

Private investor, team and Echo sale tokens unlock 25% at the one-year anniversary of the June 2026 launch, then monthly for three years. That first step is up to 10.82% of supply.

What is the CAP contract address?

0x99991c6AAbba5a096f24f250b73580F5179b9999, the same on Ethereum and BNB Chain.

What is the difference between CAP and cUSD?

cUSD is Cap’s dollar token for lenders, meant to stay near $1. CAP is the separate governance token whose price floats.

cUSD is a kind of stablecoin, and Cap as a whole is a DeFi lending protocol; both pages explain the basics this one builds on. The gap between CAP’s market value and its fully diluted value is set out on the market cap page.

Before sending money to any new token, read how to avoid a crypto scam for the contract checks that rule out fakes. For a token where the big holder is a vesting schedule instead of a timelock, compare the dappOS profile.

The practical check

A timelock buys you warning, not safety. If you hold a token like this, watch the timelock’s queue the way you would watch an earnings date, and decide in advance what you would do if a large transfer appeared.
